Trump Slammed Worldwide Over Viral Taylor Swift Clip

The White House ignited a firestorm among Taylor Swift’s devoted fanbase on Monday, November 3, 2025, after posting a TikTok video featuring the pop superstar’s latest single without apparent authorization. The 22-second clip, shared on the administration’s official account, used Swift’s chart-topping track “The Fate of Ophelia” to promote President Donald Trump’s administration and the U.S. military, prompting immediate backlash from Swifties worldwide.

The video showcased the lyric “Keep it one hundred on the land, the sea, the sky” displayed over footage of different military branches before transitioning to images of Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and their respective spouses. A flash of Trump’s mugshot accompanied the line “don’t care where the hell you been,” while the song’s lyric “Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes” played over photos of the administration’s leadership.

Swift fans flooded the post’s comment section with fury, questioning the apparent hypocrisy of using music from an artist the president had previously attacked. The video’s posting came months after Trump declared on Truth Social in September 2024, following Swift’s endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, that he hates the Grammy-winning artist. Many commenters urged Swift to pursue legal action against the administration for allegedly using her intellectual property without permission, a tactic several musicians have employed when politicians use their work without authorization.

According to one observer, “What happened to ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT’?” Another fan wrote, “Ohhh Taylor is going to hate you’re using her song.” The disconnect between the president’s past animosity and his administration’s current use of her music struck many as particularly galling.

Despite the controversy, “The Fate of Ophelia” continues its dominant performance on the Billboard charts, holding the number one position for its fifth consecutive week. The song serves as the opening track on Swift’s latest album, which launched on October 3, 2025, selling approximately 2.7 million copies in physical and digital formats on its first day in the United States alone. The record also shattered vinyl sales records, moving 1.2 million copies during its opening week.

A White House official defended the video’s creation with a dismissive statement to Variety, stating, “We made this video because we knew fake news media brands like Variety would breathlessly amplify them. Congrats, you got played.” The spokesperson indicated that news outlets covering the controversy were playing into the administration’s hands.

The incident marks another chapter in the complicated relationship between Trump and Swift. The president previously claimed credit for the Music Modernization Act, which he signed and suggested benefited Swift financially, stating there was no way she could endorse his opponent and be disloyal to someone who made her substantial money. Trump was even once filmed enjoying Swift’s “Blank Space” while riding in a vehicle, though that goodwill evaporated after her political endorsement of Harris.

Earlier in 2025, Trump appeared to soften his stance toward the entertainer, congratulating Swift on reports of her relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce and calling her a terrific person. Swift and Kelce had previously been subjects of right-wing conspiracy theories claiming they would leverage their influence to sway voters toward Democratic candidates in the 2024 election.

The album from which “The Fate of Ophelia” originates represents a new creative direction for Swift, who first revealed the project’s existence during an August 2025 appearance on the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by Kelce and his brother Jason. The announcement sent fans into a frenzy, with New York’s Empire State Building illuminated in orange to commemorate the occasion. The 12-track record includes a collaboration with pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter on the title track.

Swift premiered the album through a limited theatrical release party from October 3-5, 2025, offering fans behind-the-scenes footage, lyric videos, her personal commentary, and the debut music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.” The 89-minute program provided an intimate look at the creative process behind her latest work. Part of the album was written and recorded during the European leg of her Eras Tour in 2024, connecting the music directly to her touring experience and the momentum she carried into this career phase.

As of publication, Swift has not publicly responded to the White House’s unauthorized use of her music. The singer has remained largely out of the public spotlight since concluding her massively successful Eras Tour at the end of 2024, choosing to focus on her personal life and upcoming projects.
