Two Amazon employees, Jamari McKillion, 21, and David Perez Morales Jr., 20, are facing murder charges following a fatal shooting in the parking lot of an Amazon warehouse in San Antonio, Texas. The incident, stemming from a planned fight during a work break, resulted in one fatality and another person injured.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Katrael Delosier.
The suspects were arrested on felony murder charges for the killing. The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on Jan. 11, in the parking lot of an Amazon Fulfillment Center located in Far West Bexar County, Texas.
When Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene, Delosier and Johnny Bermea III were found with gunshot wounds. Both were immediately rushed to the hospital. Delosier eventually succumbed to his injuries, while Bermea, who survived the incident, is reported to be in stable condition.
The deadly confrontation was a result of a previous disagreement between Bermea and an unnamed Amazon employee. The two had agreed to settle their differences with a fight during a work break. However, the Amazon worker summoned friends for support before the fight.
As per the arrest affidavits, Bermea and the employee had a history of conflict dating back to their high school days. Bermea challenged the employee to a fight and told him he had a firearm in his vehicle, which prompted the employee to call McKillion for backup.
The employee guided Bermea towards a car in the parking lot during their break, where a man stepped out of the vehicle and started shooting before escaping the scene.
Investigators identified McKillion as the driver of the escape vehicle, while Morales was found to have fired the shots that killed Delosier. The vehicle was identified as a Toyota Camry.
Surveillance footage recorded the tragic event, providing visual evidence of the shooting and the suspects’ escape. Cell phone location data further linked the suspects to the Amazon facility during the time of the shooting.
McKillion was arrested on Monday, Jan. 12, at another Amazon warehouse in San Antonio, and his vehicle was seized for the investigation. Morales was detained at a residential address on Mohawk Street. Both men are now charged with first-degree felony murder, a serious offense in Texas that could lead to a life sentence.
Bail for both McKillion and Morales has been set at $300,000 each.
According to his family, Delosier is survived by his partner and two sons. His brother said he had recently completed training to become a mechanic and was working toward buying a home.
The company issued a statement expressing its sorrow over the tragic loss of a team member and extending its thoughts to the victim’s family. The company is also assisting law enforcement with the investigation.
The irreplaceable loss to Delosier’s family emphasizes the risk of violence in public spaces. As the legal proceedings progress, prosecutors will aim to prove McKillion and Morales’ intentional conduct that led to Delosier’s death, with surveillance footage and witness statements playing a vital role in the case.
