Authorities have confirmed the death of 34-year-old Victoria Jones, the daughter of renowned actor Tommy Lee Jones, at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, California, which occurred on the first day of the new year.
The medical emergency response unit of the San Francisco Fire Department arrived at the hotel, located at 950 Mason St, at 2:52 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2026. They declared the woman deceased at the scene and promptly alerted the San Francisco Police Department and the medical examiner to initiate the investigation.
Victoria Jones was found in one of the hotel’s hallways in the early morning hours of the day. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified her and informed her legal next of kin on Jan. 2, 2026.
Upon receiving the call, the police arrived at the scene around 3 a.m. and met with the medics who had already declared the woman dead. The authorities have ruled out any suspicion of foul play in the case. Dispatch audio obtained by media outlets suggests the emergency response was for a suspected drug overdose.
The Fairmont Hotel issued a statement offering condolences and pledging cooperation with the investigating authorities. “We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers,” read a statement from the family, released through a representative for Tommy Lee Jones. “Please respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Victoria was the daughter of Tommy Lee Jones and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. The couple was married from 1981 to 1996. She has a 43-year-old brother, Austin Jones.
In her youth, Victoria emulated her father’s path, making appearances in several films. She starred in “Men in Black II” with her father and played a role in “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,” directed by Tommy Lee Jones. She also appeared in the TV series “One Tree Hill.”
Tommy Lee Jones earned an Oscar for his supporting role in “The Fugitive” in 1994, establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s most notable performers. With a career spanning multiple decades, the 79-year-old actor has been praised for his performances in critically acclaimed films across various genres.
Victoria and her father were seen together at public events over the years. They attended a Hollywood premiere together in 2017 and were photographed on the red carpet at the Tokyo Film Festival in October 2017.
Public records reveal that Victoria had multiple encounters with law enforcement in 2025. She was arrested several times that year in Napa County, California. She was charged with possessing a controlled substance, being under the influence, and resisting or obstructing officers in April 2025. In May 2025, she was arrested in Santa Cruz County, California, for resisting or obstructing an officer and for public intoxication. On June 13, 2025, she was once again arrested in Napa County on charges related to domestic battery and domestic violence.
In August 2023, about 16 months before her death, Tommy Lee Jones asked a Marin County, California, court to implement a temporary conservatorship for Victoria, citing concerns about her “life-threatening conduct” and urgent need for drug treatment. Court records show that Victoria was involuntarily hospitalized in Greenbrae, California, after being found to pose a danger to herself and others. The temporary conservatorship was approved by a judge who assigned someone to oversee her personal care.
However, by December 2023, Tommy Lee Jones requested the court to close the case altogether, over concerns about escalating costs and potential harm if the conservatorship continued. The court terminated the conservatorship that month, leaving Victoria without any court-ordered supervision for the last years of her life.
The management of the hotel has confirmed its active cooperation with the police investigation.
