Barron Trump Named in Court Case

During a court hearing in London, a woman testified that the quick actions of Barron Trump, who alerted British emergency services after witnessing her attack on a FaceTime call, saved her life.

The 19-year-old son of U.S. President Donald Trump dialed 999, the U.K.’s emergency line, after observing an alleged assault on the woman during a video call. The incident took place on January 18, 2025, while Barron was in the U.S. and the woman was in Poplar, East London.

The woman testified at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the case against Matvei Rumiantsev, a 22-year-old man accused of the alleged assault. Audio of Barron’s urgent call to British emergency services was played in court.

During the call, Barron informed the operator that a woman, who had just called him, was being assaulted. He provided the woman’s address in New Providence Wharf, East London, and pleaded for immediate assistance.

The operator asked Barron about his relationship with the woman and urged him to answer questions accurately to assist the person in trouble. Barron stated that he knew the woman from social media and apologized if his earlier responses seemed rude.

Bodycam footage from responding police officers, played in court, showed their arrival at the scene and initial unawareness of the American caller’s identity. The woman informed them that she was acquainted with Barron Trump, Donald Trump’s son, and one officer relayed this information to a colleague.

Officers asked the woman to call Barron to verify his identity and his account of the incident. Barron recounted what he saw during the brief video call, describing a man’s head visible on the phone, the camera shifting to the woman crying and being hit, and then the call ending.

He estimated the disturbing call lasted between 10 and 15 seconds and shared with the officers his decision to call emergency services, considering it the most appropriate action he could take from thousands of miles away.

Barron explained that he believed calling the police was the best course of action and that it would not have been helpful to call back and threaten the attacker.

In her testimony, the woman expressed gratitude for Barron’s intervention, stating, “He helped save my life. That call was like a sign from God at that moment.” The woman had been in a relationship with Rumiantsev for about six months before the alleged attacks.

The prosecution, led by Serena Gates, alleged that Rumiantsev’s jealousy over the woman’s friendship with Barron Trump instigated his violent behavior when Barron tried to reach the woman.

The court heard allegations that Rumiantsev kicked the woman in her stomach while she was down during the attack and verbally abused her. The prosecution presented a pattern of alleged abuse extending beyond the incident Barron Trump witnessed.

Rumiantsev was charged with two counts of rape, intentional strangulation, assault, and obstructing justice. He denied all charges. The defense, led by Sasha Wass KC, suggested that the woman fabricated her account of the events.

The woman reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by Rumiantsev twice, once in November 2024, and again just hours before the police arrived at his apartment on January 18, 2025. Initially, she retracted her statement but later reinstated it, saying her original account was accurate.

Evidence was presented by the prosecution suggesting that Rumiantsev attempted to influence the woman’s testimony from custody, contacting her and suggesting that she reconsider her cooperation with authorities.

Barron Trump is a sophomore at New York University‘s Washington, D.C. campus. He is the youngest son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and has largely remained out of the public eye despite his father’s high-profile political career.

On January 28, 2026, jurors found Matvei Rumiantsev guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. However, he was acquitted of two counts of rape (one from November 2024 and one from January 18, 2025) and one count of intentional strangulation. The perverting the course of justice conviction related to a letter Rumiantsev wrote to the woman from prison, requesting that she withdraw her allegations.

Rumiantsev is scheduled to be sentenced on March 27, 2026.
