Today Show Host VANISHES Without Warning

Jenna Bush Hager disappeared from the “Today” show two weeks ago, leaving millions of NBC watchers searching for explanations. What happened to the cherished fourth-hour co-host? The explanation, disclosed Monday morning, March 16, 2026, by co-host Sheinelle Jones, turned out to be much less sensational than many anticipated: the 44-year-old media figure was merely taking a much-needed spring break with her loved ones.

Bush Hager spent the week away from Studio 1A alongside husband Henry Hager and their three kids—daughters Mila and Poppy, and son Hal. The opportunity couldn’t be more ideal. The mother of three seldom takes prolonged time away from her rigorous morning television routine, and this represented the first major break either she or Jones has experienced since the recently redesigned show debuted in January.

During Bush Hager’s time off, NBC gathered an outstanding lineup of celebrity guest co-hosts to accompany Jones during the week. Internet personality Justin Sylvester began things Monday—despite almost missing his on-air introduction because of a turbulent cross-country trip.

Sylvester took the red-eye from Los Angeles to New York after covering the Oscars in California on Sunday, March 15. Arriving just over two hours before showtime, the E! News correspondent encountered an extra obstacle when his car got pulled over on the way to the studio. “Girl, I brushed my teeth in the back of a car!” Sylvester told Jones on air.

The morning show veteran also admitted to name-dropping during the traffic stop, joking that he told police he was Craig Melvin to avoid a ticket.

After Sylvester’s Monday appearance, the show welcomed model Ashley Graham on Tuesday, actress Nia Long on Wednesday, and actor Darren Criss on Thursday. Sylvester returned Friday, March 20, to close out the rotation.

The succession of guest hosts is well-known ground for Bush Hager. She dedicated almost a year hosting with more than 60 different co-hosts on “Today with Jenna & Friends” after Hoda Kotb’s departure from the show in January 2025. Bush Hager compared that experience to “dating” as NBC searched for the perfect permanent co-host.

Sheinelle Jones was revealed as Bush Hager’s permanent co-host on December 9, 2025, making her debut on January 12, 2026. The veteran NBC journalist had taken an extended leave of absence starting in December 2024 to care for her husband, Uche Ojeh, during his battle with brain cancer. Ojeh died on May 23, 2025, at age 45. Jones returned to “Today” in September 2025, four months after his passing.

The mother of three has candidly discussed managing her grief while maintaining her role on the morning show. “He was rooting for me all along. I owe it to him to keep going,” Jones previously told PEOPLE.

Bush Hager’s absence occurs during a difficult time for the larger “Today” show family. Savannah Guthrie remains away from the early morning hours following the abduction of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her Arizona home on February 1. The 84-year-old has not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing. Both Jones and Kotb have been filling in for Guthrie alongside Craig Melvin during the first hour of “Today.”

Guthrie has expressed her intention to return to NBC’s morning show, in the near future.

Additionally, Al Roker was missing from Studio 1A on Monday, with Dylan Dreyer filling in while reporting live from the 2026 Players Championship in Florida.

Despite the shuffling of hosts, “Today” continues to demonstrate the strength of NBC’s deep bench of talent. The network’s ability to seamlessly rotate guest co-hosts speaks to the relationships Bush Hager built during her year-long search for Kotb’s replacement.

Bush Hager returned to “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle” the week of March 23, refreshed from her family vacation and ready to resume her duties alongside Jones in the show’s popular fourth hour.
