In an interview published on May 29, 2026, Hilaria Baldwin didn’t hold back when describing her own marriage — calling the 26-year age gap between herself and her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, downright “ridiculous” from an outside perspective. But she made clear that after nearly 14 years of marriage and seven children together, the relationship has “worked out, luckily.”
“Take a 27-year-old yoga instructor married to a rich and famous older man — it sounds ridiculous. It sounds like a bad SNL sketch,” she told the Daily Mail, joking about the optics of their relationship.
The wellness entrepreneur, 42, wasn’t trying to sugarcoat how her pairing with the Oscar-nominated “30 Rock” star, 68, might look to strangers.
A Love Story Born in Manhattan
The couple first crossed paths in February 2011 at Pure Food & Wine, an organic restaurant tucked into New York City’s Irving Place. Hilaria — born Hillary Hayward-Thomas — was an instructor at Yoga Vida at the time. Alec Baldwin, then a household name thanks to his run on “30 Rock,” approached her almost immediately.
Hilaria recalled that she was standing by the door with friends when he approached, took her hand, and said, “I must know you.”
Their courtship moved quickly. By April 2012, the couple announced their engagement, and on June 30, 2012, they exchanged vows at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York. Hilaria was 28 at the time; Alec Baldwin was 54.
Seven Kids and a Lot of Laughter
Hilaria became pregnant with the couple’s eldest, Carmen Gabriela, just five months after the wedding. Carmen, now 12, was born on Aug. 23, 2013. She was followed by Rafael Thomas, 10, born on June 17, 2015; Leonardo Ángel, nine, born on Sept. 12, 2016; and Romeo Alejandro, eight, born on May 17, 2018. The household later expanded to include Eduardo “Edu” Pau and María Lucía, both five, and the couple’s youngest, Ilaria Catalina, three.
Eight pets round out the bustling household, which is split between a Greenwich Village apartment and a home in the Hamptons — though the couple has been actively trying to sell the Hamptons property. The five-bedroom modern farmhouse in Amagansett has been on and off the market since 2022, when it was first listed at $29 million. As of June 2026, the asking price has been reduced to $18.995 million. The couple renewed their vows on June 30, 2017, at the Wölffer Estate Vineyard, with Alec Baldwin’s daughter Ireland Baldwin — whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger — joining her half-siblings to witness the ceremony.
Date Nights and Real Talk About the Age Gap
Despite assumptions about their age-gap marriage, Hilaria said the relationship is more balanced than many people believe.
“I think people expect that Alec wanted somebody he could boss around, and we’re on the same level together,” she said. She added that the couple “poke fun at each other in our family all the time.”
She explained that they allowed each other to be themselves, and she believed this mutual freedom was one of the reasons their relationship had lasted so long, despite being very different from one another.
Keeping the spark alive with seven children in the mix takes intention. Hilaria said she and Alec Baldwin prioritize date nights, even amid heavy travel schedules. Dinner is usually the centerpiece — sometimes out, sometimes home-cooked — followed by long conversations about the kids and their respective projects.
But she’s been candid that the 26-year difference isn’t something they ignore. On the “Uncut & Uncensored” podcast with host Caroline Stanbury, released on Nov. 12, 2025, she opened up about the work it takes to navigate a significant age difference.
“I don’t believe that age is just a number, at least in our situation,” she said at the time. “There are certain things where I have to look at him and say, ‘He has 26 more years of experience,’ and sometimes that’s a flex, and sometimes that means that we need to do a little therapy.”
She also recognized the personal sacrifices that came with marrying a major Hollywood star, noting that the marriage led to a loss of part of her identity and marked her first experience of being discussed on such a widespread public scale.
Weathering the Storms Together
The Baldwins have certainly had their share of turbulence. Hilaria faced a public reckoning over her characterization of her connection to Spain, and Alec endured a trial following the fatal shooting on the set of the film “Rust.” The couple has chronicled much of their family life in their reality series “The Baldwins.”
“There’s been so much chaos in our lives, so much of it wonderful, some horrible things, but we’ve managed to figure it out,” Hilaria reflected.
Alec, who attended an event celebrating Hilaria’s Spotlight magazine cover alongside his wife, made it clear his admiration hasn’t dimmed. “When I met her, she was unknown; she wasn’t a famous person. She was a hard worker and I really admired that. She’s beautiful beyond measure, inside and out,” he said.
